A group of hands. Empower the next generation of change makers. Volunteers work with youth in communities on projects that promote engagement and active citizenship, including gender awareness, employability, health and HIV/AIDS education, environmental awareness, sporting programs, and info technology.

If you choose Youth in Development, take 3 courses (9 credit hours) from one of the following areas:

  • Gender Studies
  • Health Education
  • Human Development
  • K-12 Education
  • Music Education

  • Other (as approved)

Build 50 hours of related field experience through an activity such as:

  • Complete an approved internship in the areas of youth development, family development, education, outreach, and communication
  • Complete an approved supervised classroom youth development or counseling teaching program as required by your degree program
  • Complete a youth, family, or community development-focused study abroad experience
  • Participate in activities/events planning, organizing, assessing community needs
  • Serve as a volunteer for CASA
  • Serve as a volunteer for a community Free Clinic
  • Serve as a volunteer for a transition school
  • Serve as a living group Residence Hall Assistant or Facility advisor
  • Serve as a peer mentor through the Enhanced Learning Center
  • Serve as a volunteer at any community health provider specializing in youth services
  • Volunteer as a youth leader for a nonreligious-based youth group
  • Volunteer as a youth sports coach
  • Other related activity coordinated by the Volunteer Action Center and approved in advance by the PC Prep coordinator/advisor

The applicant must provide verifiable evidence of this activity. This may include a Service Transcript from the Volunteer Action Center or from the agency where the volunteer action occurred.
